At-A-Glance Athletic Accomplishments

December 26, 2002 - Rachel diagnosed with an arterial venous malformation in her spine causing 2 aneurysms that compressed her spinal cord, resulting in paralysis from the waist down.

January - February 2003 - Hospitalized for 6 weeks for rehabilitation.

October 2003 - Started wheelchair basketball. Rachel made the starting five (only girl) for All Tournament teams in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

June 2004 - Started training for track and field. Qualified for Nationals in Arizona in shot put, discus, javelin. Earned silver medal in shot put and bronze in discus. Broke national record in javelin.

September 2004 - Rachel’s basketball team, the St. Louis Rolling Rams, won first place in SW Conference. Placed second at Nationals in Minnesota. Rachel selected for National All-Tournament team.

Winter 2004 - 2005 - Rachel's basketball team, the St. Louis Rolling Rams, won first place in SW Conference. Placed second at Nationals in Minnesota. Rachel selected for National All Tournament team.

Spring and Summer 2005 - Qualified for Nationals in Florida in shot put, discus, javelin; the 100m, 200m, 400m races, 25m free style; backstroke; 50m free style swimming. Broke record in javelin. Received silver medal in discus and shot put.

Fall 2005 - Competed in 5k and 5 mile road racing. Competed in swimming at the Triathlon at Lake St. Louis. Won first place at Italian Fest 5k road race.

Winter 2005 – 2006 - St. Louis Rolling Rams won first place in SW Conference. Rachel named to SW Conference All Tournament team. Won first place at Nationals in Nebraska.

Summer 2006 - Won 17 gold medals at Endeavor Games in Oklahoma: 3 in weight lifting, 3 in field events, various race and swim events, & Pentathlon.  Competed at Nationals in Florida & broke records in 3 field events, 3 weight lifting events, & earned medals in 13 events.  Received Spirit of Excellence award.

Fall 2006 - Competed in road racing & all 3 sections of the Triathlon at Lake St. Louis, earning first place in women’s wheelchair division: ¼ mile lake swim, 11 ½ mile hand crank chair road race, 5k racing chair race. Won Italian fest 5k road race.

Winter 2006 – 2007 - St. Louis Rolling Rams basketball team won SW Conference.  Placed 7th at Nationals in Illinois.  Rachel selected for National All Tournament team.

March 2007 - Represented U.S. on 14 member Team USA at Junior World Disability Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Earned 3 gold medals (shot put, discus, 100m backstroke) & 5 silver medals (100m/200m combined, 400m, 4x100m medley, 50m backstroke, 4x100 m free style relay).  Set new shot put record.

Spring 2007 - Earned gold medals in track & field events in Missouri, Oklahoma, Alabama.  Competed in her first adult meet at Paralympic championships in Georgia, where she broke records & set new qualifying standards in shot put & javelin at her disability level.  Won a silver & 2 bronze medals.

Summer 2007 - Earned medals at Mid-America Games in Kansas, Dixie Games in Alabama, and Endeavor Games in Oklahoma.

July 2007 - Competed at Nationals in Washington in track, field, & swimming in an older age category (16 - 18).  Set new records in 50m & 100m backstroke & all 3 weight lifting categories, earning records in 2 age group categories for all of the events.  Received Spirit of Excellence award in weight lifting.

July 2007 - Awarded Inspirational Athlete of the Year by the Optimist Club of Mehlville, Missouri.

September 2007 - Competed on Junior Paralympic Team USA in wheelchair basketball at Day of Difference World Games in Sidney, Australia. Team earned silver medal.

Winter 2007 - 2008 - St. Louis Rolling Rams basketball team earned first place in tournaments in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin. Rachel named to All Tournament teams at each. Team won SW Conference title in Texas. Rachel was MVP. Earned Spirit of the Game award for good sportsmanship.

February 7, 2008 - Competed at Women’s Shoot-out 2008 in Georgia – a training session sponsored by the National Wheelchair Basketball Association, conducted by Paralympic & Jr. Paralympic coaches.

March 2008 - St. Louis Rolling Rams basketball team qualified to compete at the Varsity level at Nationals in Seattle, WA. The team won 14th place. Rachel was 1 of 5 selected for the 2008 Girls’ All National Tournament team.

May 9 - 10, 2008 - Went to White Plains, NY and competed in George Loucks Memorial Competition, a national high school event. Only 12 wheelchair racers were invited - 6 girls and 6 boys. Rachel took 5th in 100, 800, and 1600 meter races and 4th in 5K race.

June 5 - 8, 2008 - Competed at Endeavor Games in Edmond, OK. Earned gold medals in power lifting and in bench press; 4 gold medals in track; gold medals in javelin, discus and shot put; gold medals in 50 and 100M freestyle, 100M backstroke, 100M breast stroke. Rachel was awarded Junior Athlete of the Year.

June 13 - 15, 2008 - Competed in shot put and javelin at the 2008 USA Paralympic trials in Phoenix, AZ. Won the silver medal in both events.

Summer 2008 - Attended basketball camps at University of Alabama and University of Illinois

July 20 - 27, 2008 -
Competed at International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation World Games. Earned a gold medal in power lift, silver in javelin, bronze in shot put.

July 20 - 27, 2008 - Earned 8 gold medals in swimming, shot put, discus, javelin, power lift, bench press, combined weights, 3-on-3 basketball at National Jr. Disabilities Championships. Awarded Spirit of Excellence for basketball.

Fall & Winter 2008 - 2009 - Played wheelchair basketball for St. Louis Rolling Rams. Named female MVP of SW Conference Championships of the Jr. NWBA, selected for All Conference First Team, All Conference Academic Team, and received SW Conference College Scholarship

Winter 2009 - Selected as the only female competitor in field events for TEAM USA at IWAS World Games in Notwil, Switzerland July 2009. March 16 - 22, 2009 - Played for the St. Louis Rolling Rams at the Jr. NWBA Nationals in Denver (team placed 12th). First pick for the Varsity All Tournament team for the Jr. NWBA. Played for the Pittsburgh Steel City Stars in the Women's NWBA Nationals (team placed 7th).
